Best Bets: Cincinnati – Week 3

For conferences like the GMC, the CHL and the ECC, Week 3 represents the last tune-up before conference play.
Meanwhile, GCL South teams continue to their brutal non-conference slate as they try to boost their strength of schedule in their ultimate quests for higher Harbin ratings.
Five games played in the Cincinnati area will feature a pair of unbeaten teams.
Here is a look at the Best Bets for Cincinnati in Week 3:
Colerain (2-0) at La Salle (2-0), 7 p.m. – Colerain held off a late rush by Warren Central in Week 1 and topped St. Xavier in overtime last Saturday. QB Deshaunte Jones is fourth in the GMC in rushing yards (236) as the Cardinals are unbeaten despite having thrown for fewer than 70 yards. La Salle edged Carmel (Ind.) by a touchdown to open the season before using a 36-point second quarter to beat East Central (Ind.), 43-20 last week. Jeremy Larkin is tops in the GCL South with 325 rushing yards, and Nick Watson leads the conference in passing yards (271).
Dublin Coffman (2-0) at Fairfield (2-0), 7 p.m. – Coffman has outscored its central Ohio opponents, 93-7 to open the year. Gunner Hoak is coming off a 230-yard, three-touchdown passing performance in a 52-0 win over Scioto, and Gavin Sturdivant ran for 178 yards and two TDs in that win. After a pair of wins against Dayton teams, Fairfield wraps up its non-conference schedule. QB Hunter Krause is 31 of 44 for a conference-best 453 yards and four scores.
Edgewood (2-0) at Badin (2-0), 7 p.m. – Edgewood started the season with a 21-17 win over Monroe, and it beat Franklin by two touchdowns last week. Despite throwing just 20 passes in two games, Badin QB Zach Larkin has thrown for 361 yards. The Rams have blown out Taft and Talawanda.
Glen Este (2-0) at Mount Healthy (1-1), 7 p.m. – Glen Este has rolled up 102 points in its two wins thus far. The Trojans boast the ECC’s leading passer in Tyler Pilcher (20-29-415-4-2) and the top rusher in Robby Boone (37-315-6). Mount Healthy has played a pair of nail-biters, topping Sycamore by one in Week 1 and losing to Fenwick, 16-8 last week.
Little Miami (0-2) at Indian Hill (2-0), 7 p.m. – Little Miami is still looking for its first win but has lost to a pair of unbeaten teams in Wilmington and Western Brown, scoring a respectable 27.5 points in those contests. Indian Hill buried Waynesville, 61-19 last week after a 42-14 win over New Richmond in its opener. Both games were on the road.
Mentor (2-0) at St. Xavier (1-1), 7 p.m. – Mentor has beaten Boardman and Cleveland St. Ignatius with one of the most dangerous passing attacks in the state. Sophomore QB Tadas Tatarunas has thrown for 832 yards in two games, and Jason Blizzard has 570 receiving yards. After drilling Covington Catholic to start the year, St. Xavier lost to Colerain in overtime last week. The Bombers are allowing just 112.5 yards per contest, including a total of 53 passing yards.
Ross (1-1) at Western Brown (2-0), 7 p.m. – Ross rebounded from a tough 28-20 loss to Goshen to beat Dixie by 35 last week. Dustin Foley threw for 229 yards and the scores in the latter. After a 40-0 win at Hillsboro, Western Brown pulled out a 41-29 victory over Little Miami.
Scott County (Ky.) (3-0) at Elder (2-0), 7 p.m. – Scott County is one of the best teams in Kentucky this year, scoring an average of 51.0 points, including a 54-28 win over Highlands last week in which the Cardinals led, 33-0 after the first quarter. Keith Guy has rushed for 306 yards, and Josh Davis is 17-for-21 for 375 yards and four TDs.
Summit Country Day (2-0) at Reading (2-0), 7 p.m. – Summit Country Day has won its both of its games by seven points or fewer, topping Purcell Marian by four and Cincinnati College Prep by seven. Reading has outscored its foes (Newport and Adena), 94-18, lead by the three-headed rushing attack of Adrianne Simmons, Baden Pinson and Neriah Brooks, all of which have over 125 ground yards.
Wyoming (2-0) at McNicholas (1-1), 5 p.m. – Wyoming has dominated its opponents, outscoring them 83-7. Justin Shields lead the CHL in rushing with 269 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 32 attempts, and the Cowboys are allowing just 104.0 yards per game. McNicholas has had both of its contests decided by three points – a 13-10 loss at Turpin and a 24-21 win vs. Anderson. Rockets QB Cameron Hayes has completed 72 percent of his passes (23 of 32) for 206 yards.
