Conversion lifts Holmes over Walton

A two-point conversion with 1:05 left in regulation lifted Holmes to its first win of the season, 15-14 over Walton-Verona on Saturday.

Junior running back Salih Abdullah ran in a three-yard touchdown, and senior running back Andrew Arnold caught the decisive 2-point pass from senior Desean Brumfield, putting the Bulldogs ahead.

The Bearcats took the lead, 14-7 with 5:18 to play on a 35-yard run by senior Halsey Page, but they were flagged for excessive celebration after the play. Holmes started its winning drive at its own 37 as a result.

Walton-Verona did attempt a 50-yard field goal in the closing seconds, which was on line but fell several yards short.

Page led all rushers with 73 yards. Arnold had 64 receiving yards and 99 total yards.

Holmes travels to Lloyd next week while faces Henry County in New Castle.
