Scott County pounded the Bluebirds, 54-28 in Georgetown, as Highlands fell to 1-2 on the season, matching its most losses for an entire season since 2006.

Senior Nick Kendall rushed 17 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Bluebirds. Junior quarterback Brady Gosney went 9-for-25 for 93 yards and threw for a pair of two-point conversions.

Gosney also ran for a TD. Senior linebacker Luke Lindeman scored Highlands’ other touchdown, running in a 65-yard defensive fumble recovery after Bluebirds senior defensive lineman Tyler Robinson hit the quarterback, knocking the ball loose.

The Cardinals induced the running clock early in the second quarter. Highlands pulled with 26, 40-14 in the third quarter, but Scott County returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to seal it.

Highlands hosts Ryle at 7 p.m. next Friday.
