Alter continues streak vs. Badin

After losing 17 games in a row to Alter, it looked as if Badin would finally end the losing streak on Friday night, leading 19-0 after the first quarter.

However, the Knights had different plans, as they came back to stun the Rams, 27-22.

Badin wasted little time finding the end zone, when Cody Boxrucker found a hole and went 80-yards, giving the Rams a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the game.

After a missed Alter field goal, Boxrucker found the end zone again from one-yard out.

Badin’s first quarter scoring barrage continued when quarterback Zachary Larkin connected with Phillip Dozier on a seven yard touchdown pass. At the end of the first quarter, the Rams held a commanding 19-0 lead.

Alter would finally find the end zone midway through the second quarter when Ryan Markoff connected with Matthew Zelinski on a 35 yard touchdown pass.

After a Badin field goal, the Knights cut into the lead just before halftime when Markoff scampered in from nine yards out. The Rams led 22-14 at halftime.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Alter running back Andy Turpin scored from 11 yards out with 10:24 remaining in the game. After a failed two point conversion attempt, the Knights trailed 22-20.

Alter would wrap up the improbable victory when Markoff scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from 12 yards out.

Badin outgained Alter, 421-373.

Boxrucker became the new all-time leading rusher in Badin history, surpassing the previous record of 2,832 yards.

Next week, Alter hosts McNicholas at Franklin High School. Badin will look to bounce back when it faces Chaminade Julienne at Wayne High School.
