Kings Cruise to Win Over Teays Valley

The Kings Knights advanced to the second round of the Division II playoffs for the third straight season with a 35-7 defeat of Teays Valley.

The Region 6 second-seed held the seven-seed Teays Valley (8-3) to only 159 total yards, which only three yards came in the air. Those yards came on only one completion on nine attempts by senior quarterback Drew Pennington. The Knights have been limiting opponents to 277 yards per game.

Kings (10-1) junior quarterback Tyler Knecht continued his success on the football field, throwing for 163 yards and three touchdowns. He added 84 yards on the ground. These three touchdowns extended Knecht’s season total to 26.

Two of those touchdown passes were caught by Justin Wise. The wideout finished the game with 122 yards after two huge touchdown receptions. The first touchdown was a 58-yard reception in the third quarter that extended the Knights lead to 21-7. The next came on the last scoring play in the fourth quarter to give the Knights a 28-point lead.

The Knights opened the scoring early in the first quarter when senior running back Avery Koller scored on a 4-yard touchdown run. This was his 21st touchdown on the season. He finished the game with 72 yards on eight carries.

The defense extended the lead two scores when Evan Guckenberger recovered a fumble in the endzone about midway through the first quarter.

Teays Valley was able to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Tanner Oller to cut the deficit 14-7, but that was as close as Teays Vallley would get to the Knights.

Kings will take a seven-game winning streak into next Friday when they play the only team that has defeated the Knights this season. It will be a rematch from September 18 when Turpin defeated Kings, 20-16 at home. Turpin scored the game-winning touchdown with only 32 seconds left in the game, so this will be an opportunity for Kings to avenge that defeat. The site of this rematch will be determined at a later date.
