Ryle averaged 9.4 yards per play, gaining over 300 yards in the air and more than 250 on the ground as the Raiders beat the Colonels, 31-13 on Friday.

Ryle overcame 12 penalties, many procedural on offense, outscoring CovCath, 17-3 the final two-plus quarters.

Jake Chisholm ran in a one-yard score to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead just 2:25 into the game.

The Colonels’ Matthew Kloska kicked a 33-yard field goal minutes later to cut the lead to four, but Tanner Morgan hooked up with Zachary Cusick for a 76-yard touchdown pass later that quarter, making it 14-3 Ryle.

A 10-yard run by CovCath’s Casey McGinness cut it to four again, but the Raiders answered in the closing minutes of the first half with a 13-yard TD reception by Jake Long.

Kloska kicked another field goal early in the second half, but Morgan ran in a 1-yard score to essentially seal it.

Ryle gained 370 of its 563 yards in the first half, and finished with 304 in the air and 259 on the ground.

Chisholm finished with 16 carries for 161 yards, and was 19-for-28 for 304 yards and a pair of scores. Cusick caught four passes for 108 yards and score.

CovCath was led by McGinness’ 99 ground yards and one TD. QB A.J. Mayer ended the night 15 of 31 for 147 yards and an interceptions, and he rushed for 53 yards.

Ryle travels to Lexington Catholic next week, and the Colonels face Oak Hills in a Crosstown Showdown game at Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
