Colerain tops LaSalle in battle of defense

The Colerain Cardinals and the LaSalle Lancers battled it out tonight in a game that came down to the wire.

The two teams were deadlocked throughout most of the game, and the final stat line proves it. Colerain finished with 13 first downs and 187 total yards, while the Lancers put up 14 first downs for 216 total yards.

The lone points in this game were put up by Cardinal’s kicker Ryan Murray, who netted a 41 yard field goal late in the 2nd quarter and a 34 yard field goal during the 4th.

LaSalle threatened to score multiple times, but failed to capitalize on two field goal attempts and were shut down by the Cardinals within the last few minutes of the game.

The Lancers had a 4th down and 4 on the Colerain 5 yard line with 3:48 left in the 4th, but failed to convert the first down and/or score a touchdown and instead turned the ball over on downs, affectively sealing the win for Colerain.

After the game though, it was revealed that a bomb threat had been made with three minutes left in the game, but police and school officials elected to finish the close game and then deal with the threat.

The stadium was immediately evacuated post-game as police searched the area, and the all-clear was eventually given around 12:00 AM. All Saturday school activities at Colerain will proceed as normal.
