It has taken half a season but now we are starting to see the good teams separating themselves from the pack. Some of those schools are pleasant surprises from the perennial playoff programs including the “Killer B’s” – Beavercreek, Belmont, Bethel-Tate. It may be the best part of any campaign, rooting for schools like these to get to November. With half of a season left it will be fun to watch who can fulfill their playoff destinies.

Here is a look at how things are shaping up after Week 5:

RANKINGS – OHIO DI
The road to a title still rolls through defending state champions, St. Xavier. The Bombers showed they are rock solid in all phases of the game after a 30-7 undressing of Moeller last Friday night. They continue to get better each week and by the time the playoffs come around, look out Region 4. There are no “gimme’s” on the schedule this weekend…COMPLETE RANKINGS

RANKINGS – OHIO DII-DIII
There is a new sheriff in town as No.1 Winton Woods vaults to the top of the poll after going  to No. 3 La Salle (then No. 1) and ending the home teams 15-game winning streak. It was the first of three tilts against GCL South schools over the next six weeks for the Warriors and the results couldn’t have been any sweeter. The Division II, Region 8 playoffs are going to be highly entertaining now knowing that La Salle is not invincible…COMPLETE RANKINGS

RANKINGS – OHIO DIV-DVII
One thing we found out this past weekend, No. 3 Valley View is the real deal after dismantling Ohio Division II-III then No.5 Franklin, 42-3. The Spartans are a serious threat to win the Division IV, Region 16 regional title. A pair of newcomers to the poll this week welcomes No. 8 Mariemont and No. 10 Bethel-Tate to the party. Mariemont will take on No. 4 Indian Hill on Thursday in CHL match where the winner will hold on to a share of the league lead. It’s the only game between ranked teams this week…COMPLETE RANKINGS

RANKINGS – NKY
The top five teams in the poll all remain the same this week. Making its first appearance in the rankings is No. 8 Scott. The Eagles are one of three teams that are on a bye tin Week 6, No. 1 Covington Catholic and No. 7 Newport Central Catholic are also off. Despite the light schedule there is a dandy marquee matchup with No. 2 Simon Kenton on the road at No. 4 Beechwood…COMPLETE RANKINGS
