Blue Colonels rule the Dixie Highway duel

EDGEWOOD, kentucky – Dixie Highway rivals the Covington Catholic “blue” Colonels and Dixie Heights “red” Colonels had their annual face off and it was all CovCath in this one. The blue Colonels remained unbeaten as they dominated Dixie Heights from the opening kickoff and in all phases of the game.

Amazing field position played a large role as five different CovCath players found the end zone in the first quarter. It was a barrage the home team red Colonels could never overcome. The blue Colonels offense spread the wealth judiciously like they always do finishing the game with a 387-165 advantage in total yards.

Most of Dixie Heights’ yards came in mop-up duty. The Covington Catholic defense was stellar again holding its fifth straight opponent to less than 10 points. They are allowing just 6.9 points per game on the season. Mike Mayer, Tanner Bayer and Grant Dyer set the tone for the winners on this night.

The CovCath offense had many heroes. Quarterback AJ Mayer threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Casey McGinness found the end zone twice before intermission. Malachi Pike led the team with three receptions for 55 yards and a score.

The lone bright spot for the red Colonels was senior Brandon Barker who ran for a game-high 131 yards while scoring the team’s only touchdown.
