Edgewood wins SWOC

Edgewood spoiled Mount Healthy’s senior night with a 35-14 win over the conference rival, and won the SWOC division.

Edgewood junior running back Wade Phillips spoiled the party with three rushing touchdowns, and he is the conference leading rusher.

Phillips scored two of his touchdowns early in the first half to jump out to a quick 14-0 lead. Mount Healthy ran back the kickoff to cut the lead to 14-7, but junior Elijah Williams answered on a short run to extend the lead back to two touchdowns.

Williams scored his second touchdown of the night in the third quarter, and Phillips followed that up with another touchdown to make it 35-7.

The Cougars defense was able to shutdown the Mount Healthy offense and force turnovers. Senior Ben Boyd had two interceptions in the first half.

The Cougars finished undefeated in the conference for the second straight season. The only losses came to Franklin and St. Francis Desales from Columbus. The Cougars entered the week ranked eighth in Division II Region 8 so now they have to wait to see if another team passes them for the last spot. If they make the playoffs the Cougars will play a road game against either La Salle or Winton Woods.
