GCL South: Recruiting Wrap

By Dan Clasgens | Managing Editor

St. Xavier tackle Matt James is one of four GCL South players that signed with Notre Dame.

National Signing Day took place earlier this week and per usual the GCL South had major implications on college coaches recruiting grades.

The St. Xavier Bombers, the 2009 league champs, sent a pair of seniors to Notre Dame in four-star offensive tackle Matt James and three-star quarterback Luke Massa.

"I fit in with the players really well up there and I knew the coaches pretty well," James told Rivals.com about his decision to go with the Fighting Irish. "It's a national big-time program and I like the notoriety of that."

They are not the only players from the GCL South to find their way to South Bend as a pair of four-star recruits, Elder tight end Alex Welch and Moeller quarterback Andrew Hendrix, were both longtime Notre Dame commits.

The Big Ten will also get a good representation from the power conference as Moeller defensive end Marcus Rush, TriStateFootball.com’s Cincinnati Defensive Player of the Year, committed to Michigan State. Elder teammates, wide receiver Tim O’Conner and defensive lineman Pete Bachman, both signed with Indiana.

“Just getting a chance to keep playing with Tim is something I am looking forward to,” Bachman said of continue to play with O’Conner.

LaSalle defensive back Cameron Cole will join the pair of Panthers in Bloomington.
