Winton Woods announced earlier this week that will play sports as an independent in the 2012-13 school year, declining an offer from the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference to join.
“We sincerely appreciate Cincinnati Public Schools for accepting our application when no other conference would,” Winton Woods athletic director Dwight Campbell said in a statment. “However, in looking at sports offerings, high school enrollment, and the number of junior varsity and ninth grade teams available to compete against, it was simply not a good fit.”
The Warriors will continue to attempt to join the newly formed Eastern Cincinnati Conference, which will begin play in 2012 and includes many of the members from the Warrior’s current conference, the Fort Ancient Valley Conference.
None of the changes will affect the upcoming 2011 football season.
