One thing Turpin (8-3) has shown the ability to do in recent weeks is put up monstrous scoring barrages during 12 minute stretches of a game. The Spartans did just that Friday night on the road at Tippecanoe (9-2) erupting for 24 unanswered second quarter points. Turpin was able to fend off the Red Devils from there on out to pull out a 24-21 victory.
Quarterback Connor Jansen ran for 86 yards and all three Spartans touchdowns as the junior showed the poise that every head coach wants from his signal-caller in the playoffs. Teammate Connor Donovan had a team high 94 yards on the ground for Turpin.
Two early turnovers put the Spartans in a bind as Tippecanoe built a 14-0 first quarter lead. Turpin stormed all the way back and a Shane Kelly field goal right before intermission would end up being the deciding points in the affair.
Turpin looks to have another date with destiny as they get a rematch with league rival Kings (11-0) next Friday night. The Knights beat the Spartans, 35-27 in Week 10.. That game in all likelihood will be played at Princeton’s Viking Stadium.
