CHAMINADE JULIENNE 30, WAYNESVILLE 17

By TSF Staff | TRISTATEFOOTBALL.COM

The Chaminade Julienne Eagles (9-3) are peaking at the right time as they knock off previously unbeaten Waynesville (11-1), 30-17 to move onto the Regional finals against Clinton-Massie (10-2). This will be CJ’s first trip to the Regional finals since 2004 when they lost to St. Mary’s Memorial.

Brandon Payne scored two second half touchdowns both enabled the Eagles to have their largest leads of the night against a tough Spartans defense. He had a spectacular night finishing with 216 yards rushing. The junior now has 12 touchdowns and over 1,300 yards rushing in the teams last 10 tilts after CJ started the season, 0-2.

The first quarter was played to a 0-0 stalemate. Darrien Howard got the scoring started with his ninth rushing touchdown of the year in the second stanza for Chaminade Julienne. The Eagles would close out the half as quarterback Sam Spees hooked up with Wesley Lumpkin on a 60-yard scoring pass.

Sandwiched in between there was the first of two Luke Creditt to Ty Black scoring tosses for Waynesville. Creditt would throw for 217 yards, run for 116 more with those two touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Howard was ballhawk on defense in the second half coming up with tow of the three Chaminade Julienne takeaways after intermission. He picked off Creditt on the Spartans first possession after break and on their second he recovered a Waynesville fumble. Payne would go to work on his big night on the other side of the ball.

The Spartans were never able to get closer than seven points all night and never had the lead despite five trips inside the red zone in the first half. Chaminade Julienne has only given up more than 17 points once in their last 10 outings, nine of which they have won.
