Glen Este High School announces Jan. 30 the head football coach is Glen Este alum Nick Ayers. Ayers will assume responsibilities pending the West Clermont Board of Education approval on Feb. 13.
"We are very excited that Nick will be our next football coach. He is young, passionate and full of fire. Nick’s knowledge and experiences as a player will benefit our student athletes," Glen Este High School Principal John Spieser said.
Ayers, a 1999 graduate of Glen Este High School, was the Queen City Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1998, First Team All-City and East-West All-Star Player in 1999. He earned a football scholarship to Georgetown College in Kentucky 2000-2004 as a running back. Ayers, who walked on to the team, was an All-American at Georgetown College in 2001, 2002 and 2003 – including breaking three different records at Georgetown for rushing touch downs, total touchdowns and points scored.
He was also the third all-time leading rusher at the college where his team earned two national champions 2000 and 2001, and were runners-up in 2002. Ayers signed with the Bengals in 2004 and played arena football before a leg-injury ended his football career.
"This is my dream job – my entire family’s history is here. I have three family members that were inducted in the Glen Este High School Hall of Fame. I can relate to the kids and families because I’ve lived here and grown up my whole life around Glen Este Football. I’ve been a part of this program as a player, volunteer, coach and now head coach," said Ayers.
"Nick Ayers is the type of coach that inspires athletes to reach the best of their abilities," said Glen Este Athletic Director Dan Simmons.
Ayers’ coaching experience includes graduate assistant strength coaching and running back coach at the College of Mount St. Joseph, assistant coach for running backs and strength coach at Glen Este High School, youth volunteer coach for Glen Este teams, most recently Ayers was the seventh-grade head coach at Glen Este Middle School. Ayers owns Ayers Maximum Performance in Eastgate.
