Signing Day Recap: NKY 6A

By Dan Clasgens | Managing Editor

Ryle running back Travis Elliott signed with Western Kentucky on Wednesday.

Wednesday was National Signing Day and in schools across the area several athletes signed their letters of intent, including in Northern Kentucky. Class 6A featured a handful of football players that will be moving on to the next level.

After missing most of his senior year with an injury, Ryle running back Travis Elliott (5-11, 210) will be eager to make an early splash at Western Kentucky. He signed with the Hilltoppers after becoming the school’s earliest player ever to commit last spring. Fellow Raiders OL Bret Crawford (6-0, 200) and DB Ryan Smith (6-3, 200) will be headed to Mount St. Joseph’s and Holy Cross respectively.

Dixie Heights quarterback Zeke Pike (6-5 230), who already enrolled at Auburn in January, hopes to continue his career for the Tigers. Pike was the most recruited player out of Northern Kentucky since Shaun Alexander. However, a series of suspensions and questionable decision making on and off the field have left questions around his potential to excel at the next level.

Fellow Colonel, OL/DL DJ Handlon (6-0, 240), signed his LOI with Campbellsville.

Boone County linebacker Mikel Reynolds (5-11, 190), the TSF Northern Kentucky Defensive Player of the Year, is one of several local athletes headed for Georgetown College. Fellow Rebel, offensive linemen Robbie Hiles (5-8, 185) gave his commitment to Lindsey Wilson.

Campbell County TE/LB Jake Johnston (6-0, 220) inked with Union College.
