In their first season as an independent Winton has an eye-popping schedule. The Division II, Region 8 Warriors will face no less than five Division I, Region 4 foes in Middletown, Elder, Lakota East, Loveland and Glen Este.
Middletown is looking for their fourth straight 10-win season and beat the Warriors by three at home last fall. The 2011 combined record of their foes was 56-43.
Winton Woods’ opponent in the Skyline Crosstown Showdown is yet to be determined, but chances are it will be another Region 4 heavyweight.
The Warriors have a trio of Division III stalwarts on their hands. Jonathan Alder has made 11 straight post-season appearances. Thurgood Marhsall has an explosive backfield and upset Alter in last season’s Region 12 playoffs. Rival Bishop Watterson has seen Week 11, 18 times in the last 20 years, including state championships and two runner-ups.
This will be the fifth consecutive year that Winton Woods and the Eagles have met, splitting their series, two games each.
Here is a look at Winton Woods 2012 schedule:
Fri - 08/24/12 - SKYLINE CROSSTOWN SHOWDOWN - TBA
Fri - 08/31/12 - @Lakota East - 7:30PM
Fri - 09/07/12 - MIDDLETOWN - 7:30PM
Fri - 09/14/12 – BISHOP WATTERSON - 7:30PM
Fri - 09/21/12 – THURGOOD MARSHALL - 7:30PM
Fri - 09/28/12 – @Jonathan Alder - 7:30PM
Fri - 10/05/12 - @Loveland - 7:30PM
Fri - 10/12/12 - @Elder - 7:30PM
Fri - 10/19/12 - ANDERSON - 7:30PM
Fri - 10/26/12 - @Glen Este - 7:30PM
FINAL TAKE: If the Warriors can navigate six wins out of this challenging gauntlet that will probably get them to the post season. Seven wins definitely gets them to Week 11. All that being said, it will be more than enough work to hit those goals. Winton Woods is young and raw at the offensive skill positions while depth may be an issue down the stretch. It is a going to be a very intense 2012 campaign for head coach Andre Parker and his staff.
