NKY 5A: Recruiting Wrap

By Dan Clasgens | Managing Editor

Highlands' Austin Collinsworth chose Notre Dame from a long list of offers.

It was National Signing Day this past Wednesday and there were several local players that made their commitments official.

The Highlands Bluebirds Class of 2010 finished 44-1 during their varsity careers, now they will look to carry that success to the football field.

Austin Collinsworth, a three-time All-State selection at three different positions, signed with Notre Dame.

“They’ve got a great school, great football, and everyone is enthusiastic about it up there,” Collinsworth said of his choosing the Fighting Irish. “It’s not too far away from my house. I can still see my family. It’s kind of combination of everything that made it so easy,”

Offensive lineman Tyler Grubbs is also headed to Division I as he committed to Miami of Ohio.

Teammates Will Bardo (Dayton), John Drennen (University of Charleston), and Brandon Roller (Georgetown College) also made their decisions final.

Elsewhere in the Class 5A, District 5 the Scott Eagles saw a pair of seniors both choose Georgetown College. Quarterback Zach Sowder and lineman Aaron Wilson will both be suiting up for the Tigers.
