There weren’t many surprises at the top of the rankings after Week 1. The bottom half however is a jumbled mess with all kinds of teams jockeying for position. There are so many programs with so much more to prove moving forward. The next two weeks of non-conference play are going to be pivotal. Schools who haven’t been in a position to control their own destiny now find themselves in that spot already in this young season.
This is a time of year to get your squad better from week to week. Now with so many critical battles in terms building a resume for the post-season so early in the year, teams have to grow up in a hurry. All 10 contests are precious but the wiggle room for error has just become more intense.
Here are the latest TriStateFootball.com Ohio DI Rankings:
1. Moeller (1-0)
How they fared: Crusaders looked the part of top-rated team in win over Gilman (MD).
Looking Ahead: Grand Rapids Christian comes to town on Saturday as Moeller looks to avoid letdown.
2. Colerain (1-0)
How they fared: So many options on offense leads to Colerain’s win over Pickerington Central.
Looking Ahead: The Cardinals cross the river for a Thursday tilt against Ryle.
3. St. Xavier (1-0)
How they fared: Mental toughness and a will to win over Middletown is a good sign for the Bombers moving forward.
Looking Ahead: St. Xavier travels to Indy on Friday to clash with Cathedral, who is always trouble for the GCL South.
4. Middletown (0-1)
How they fared: A tough loss to St. Xavier showed that Middies can play with anybody.
Looking Ahead: A bounce back win on the road at Springfield is not going to be easy on Friday night.
5. Wayne (1-0)
How they fared: The Warriors are coming of age as win over Winton Woods was the sixth in their last seven games.
Looking Ahead: Wayne can avenge a 2011 loss when Canton McKinley visits Heidkamp Stadium on Saturday.
6. Elder (1-0)
How they fared: The win over Centerville ends school record eight game losing streak.
Looking Ahead: A road tilt at powerhouse Upper Arlington has Elder in a position to rack up more big Harbin points
7. Centerville (0-1)
How they fared: Friday’s loss to Elder leaves the Elks, 1-7 versus GCL South school since 2007.
Looking Ahead: It’s a great opportunity for a quality bounce back victory at home against Springboro.
8. Sycamore (1-0)
How they fared: New faces, same results as Aviators offense soars in 38-7 win versus Anderson.
Looking Ahead: The defense will get their chance to star when a banged up East Central (IN) team visits Bud Acus Field on Friday night.
9. Northmont (1-0)
How they fared: The most impressive thing about the T’bolts win over Princeton was their focus in closing out the game.
Looking Ahead: Northmont will be tested again as they head east to Columbus to face a very good Westerville South squad.
10. Lebanon (1-0)
How they fared: The Warriors upset over rival Kings on the road shows us that they are for real.
Looking Ahead: A trip to Loveland on Friday is going to be a bear. The Tigers will not be easy to take down.
