Best Bets: Cincinnati – Week 6
- Updated: September 30, 2015
For the first time this season, all four GCL South teams will be in action in conference play, and the GMC and CHL feature multiple key games among their top teams.
TriStateFootball takes a look at the Best Bets for Week 6 in Cincinnati.
Elder (4-1) at St. Xavier (4-1), 7 p.m. – This will be the first GCL South game for Elder, and St. Xavier already beat Moeller, 14-10. The Panthers are averaging 463.4 yards of offense per game, having rushed for 1,222 yards and thrown for 1,095. Peyton Ramsey is 77 of 115 (67.0 percent) for 1,095 yards and 10 TDs, and he has rushed for 502 yards and five scores as well. JaVahri Portis leads Elder in rushing yards with 596, and he has 13 touchdowns. Bombers quarterback Sean Clifford has also been efficient, going 63-for-98 for 740 yards, eight touchdowns and just two picks. Four St. Xavier rushers have gained over 100 yards on the ground.
La Salle (5-0) at Moeller (2-3), 7 p.m. – La Salle has scored at least 35 points in each of its games, averaging 44.4 points per contest. Jeremy Larkin leads three Lancers with over 300 rushing yards, having gained 739 yards on the ground for a 12.1-yard average, and he has scored 10 touchdowns. Moeller has lost three of its last four games, although the Crusaders fell to Wayne by two, national-power Don Bosco (N.J.) prep, and St. Xavier by four. Kyle Butz has 17 catches for 377 yards to lead the Moeller passing attack.
Goshen (3-1) at Norwood (2-2), 7 p.m. – This is the first week of conference play in the SBAAC. Goshen QB Isaac Hart has been deadly with his legs, rushing 76 times for 665 yards and eight scores. Norwood has outscored its last two opponents, 67-7.
Indian Hill (5-0) at Taylor (2-3), 7 p.m. – Indian Hill quarterback Reed Aciholz is making his cases for CHL offensive player of the year. The junior has amassed 1,735 yards of total offense (1,182 passing, 553 rushing) and accounted for 18 TDs (11 rushing, seven passing). No one has been able to contain him yet. The Braves will be looking for their third straight win versus a 2014 playoff team. Taylor has a losing record but has lost to New Richmond, Turpin and Wyoming who are a combined (12-3). Hunter Gillespie leads the CHL in rushing with 830 yards. After gaining 315 yards vs. Mariemont in Week 4, he had a season low 78 yards in the Yellow Jackets loss to Wyoming last Friday. His success will keep the Indian Hill offense off the field and that would be a good thing for Taylor.
Wyoming (4-1) at Mariemont (3-2), 7 p.m. – Wyoming and Mariemont are 1-1 and 0-2 in CHL play, respectively, but both are better teams than their league records indicate and need this game to make a move in the conference. Justin Shields has been the Cowboys’ primary offensive weapon, having gained 739 rushing yards and scored 10 touchdowns. Mariemont has thrown the ball 28 times per game, and QB Joey Kromer is 68 of 137 for 824 yards passing, and he is also the team’s leading rusher with 285 ground yards.
Milford (3-2) at Glen Este (4-1), 7 p.m. – Milford beat Anderson by two touchdowns last week while Glen Este suffered its first loss of 2015, also by a 14-point margin to Turpin. Milford’s Tyler Smith is 59 of 108 for 701 yards and seven TDs, and Dawson Slone has gained 504 yards on the ground on just 86 carries, finding the end zone six times. Tyler Pilcher is up to 1,303 passing yards and 12 touchdowns, and Robby Boone has rushed for 638 yards and 11 scores on 108 carries. Four Trojans have over 200 receiving yards.
