Colerain makes Media Top 25
- Updated: September 8, 2015
Five new teams have joined the Media Compilation Top 25 following Week 2 action across America.
The moves were mostly low-hanging programs from the week prior being replaced at the bottom this week. The lone exception was McEachern (Powder Springs, GA) which went from receiving votes in just one poll last week and having 21 total points to being near unanimous and coming in at No. 16 after snapping the 42-game win streak of Buford (GA), 37-14.
Wolves head coach Kyle Hockman told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that having a team like Buford on his schedule makes the team better — win or lose.
Select Week
Preseason – Aug. 18
Week 0 – Aug. 25
Week 1 – Sept. 1
Week 2 – Sept. 8
“I’m really just proud of our players,” Kyle Hockman said. “They played really hard, executed and stayed together. They had some adversity, and we had to play the full game, which is a good thing early in the season when we’re trying to get ourselves where we want to go. There were definitely some weaknesses exposed, and that’s why we play these kinds of games so we can fix those things and go forward.”
The addition of McEachern to the poll now places three teams from Georgia inside the Top 16 as regional play is getting set to open in most areas of the state.
Colerain (Cincinnati, OH), Bergen Catholic (Oradel, NJ), Louisville Trinity (KY), and St. Edward (Lakewood, OH) came in at Nos. 22, 23 and a tie for 24, respectively, to round out the bottom of the poll.
The Media Compilation takes into account the four most respected human polls, the top computer model, and an emerging hybrid human-algorithm to make for the best rankings in the country.
Those under consideration are the NationalHSFootball.com HSFB100; USAToday Super 25; MaxPreps Xcellent25; PrepNation Top 25; Jeff Fisher’s Top 25 and the Freeman Computer Top 25.
For a mathematically sound compilation each team is given points from 40 to 16 for being inside the Top 25 of each of those six polls with no points awarded for any additional rankings due to the differing size of each poll.
Points are assigned in decreasing value starting with 40 being awarded for No. 1 and on down to 16 for No. 25 which will result in a more accurate representation of the polls. Assigning points starting at 1 point would skew the tally in the instance that a team received a single, high placement versus a team with lower placements in multiple polls, raising the baseline eliminates the outlier impact in the compilation.
The poll will be updated and released each Tuesday of the football season.

Bishop Gorman (NV) | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 1 |
Bishop Gorman remained atop the Media Compilation Top 25 by defeating Bingham (South Jordan, UT) this past week. The Gaels kept its spot in every poll from last week but moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the Fisher Algorithm as that site did its first update of the season. This week Bishop Gorman will be tested by Bellevue and its Wing-T attack.

Aquinas (FL) | 3 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 2 |
Aquinas downed Miramar (FL) in convincing fashion this week but that win is still to be determined as there have been mixed reviews of Miramar. A few seasons ago, opening with dominating wins over Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL) and Miramar would have shot the Raiders to the top spot but this year both are expected to be down. Aquinas moved up three spots in the Fisher update and one spot within the Freeman Computer.

Centennial (CA) | 6 | 3 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 6 |
The Huskies were impressive in a 52-13 victory over a Serra (Gardena, CA) team that pushed it to the limits in the playoffs last year. Serra did play without some of its best players but the defense stepping up was worth noting. It gained three spots at PrepNation and Fisher, two in the Freeman, and one each from HSFB100 and USAToday.

220 |
DeMatha (MD) | 4 | 4 | 4 | 6 | 4 | 4 |
The big jump in total points came from the update of Fisher moving DeMatha from No. 21 to No. 4. The Stags gained a solid victory against No. 18 American Heritage this week but the one-point win, being secured on a missed extra point, didn’t result in the boost some expected. The team actually slid a spot in the USAToday rankings with the win.
5 (3) |
215 |
Allen (TX) | 7 | 6 | 5 | 7 | 1 | 5 |
Allen was a buoy this week as it checked the box with a blowout win against Viera (FL). The Eagles strength of schedule took a slight hit as well with Denton Guyer eeking out a low-scoring win against a legit 5A program, Ennis. Allen is now on to district play and should set a new Texas win-streak record before the playoffs. Expect this team to buoy until then.
6 (6) |
192 |
Colquitt County (GA) | 5 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 8 | 23 |
Colquitt, like Allen, was a buoy this week as it moved up a spot or two in some polls and down a spot or two in others as it got an expected win. Quarterback Chase Parrish went out with an injury in the second quarter but is expected to be fine going forward.
7 (7) |
183 |
St. John Bosco (CA) | 1 | 5 | 9 | 1 | 6 | — |
The Braves got more attention this weekend due to the performance of its former starting quarterback Josh Rosen blowing up in his first game at UCLA as a true freshman than it did in blowing out Norwalk. A trip to Oregon and then New Jersey before Trinity League play will start the evaluation process.
8 (12) |
174 |
Trinity (TX) | 13 | 14 | 17 | 8 | 7 | 13 |
Trinity avoided a letdown game this week and bettered Rockwall with ease. The Trojans moved up a few spots in five of the polls but the Fisher bump moved it up 16 places in the poll and provided a boost to the bottom line, correcting the rankings that had it behind De La Salle last week.
9 (10t) |
162 |
IMG Academy (FL) | 10 | 17 | 20 | 16 | 18 | 3 |
In what was expected to be one of the better games of the week, IMG used a major run late in the second quarter to turn a slight deficit into a blowout win against DeSoto (TX). IMG gained four spots in the HSFB100 and on PrepNation, three on MaxPreps, and two at Fisher. It also lost a placement in the Freeman computer.
10 (13) |
153 |
Katy (TX) | 11 | 15 | 8 | 9 | 9 | — |
The Tigers trashed Fort Bend Travis this week in an expected victory. It was a check the box contest that resulted in some movement in each poll. USAToday may have overcorrected itself after not having Katy ranked through the first two weeks of the season by moving it up to seven places this week, PrepNation pushed Katy into the Top 10, and the Fisher algorithm moved it up three. MaxPreps gave it a placement bump of one while the HSFB100 slid back on the team by three spots. Curiously the HSFB100 was the highest on the team in the preseason and now only has a higher ranking on the team than the USAToday and Freeman computer.
11 (10t) |
151 |
Ocean Lakes (VA) | 12 | 13 | 10 | 12 | — | 7 |
After making the second-largest jump the week prior, Ocean Lakes became a rankings buoy moving up in three polls one spot and down one spot in two others. The schedule is among the weakest of the Top 15 teams and it could remain in the buoy status until the playoffs.
12 (9) |
147 |
De La Salle (CA) | 14 | 20 | 21 | 14 | 11 | 19 |
The Freeman adjustment caused the fall for the Spartans that was expected the week prior from its loss to Euless Trinity. This week the team came out with its hair on fire and put up a 28-0 lead in the first quarter before coasting to the finish line. It was the 262nd consecutive time the team has taken on a NorCal foe and walked away without a loss.
13 (8) |
144 |
Cedar Hill (TX) | 8 | 8 | 22 | 11 | 12 | — |
The Longhorns went back to No. 13 after one week at No. 8 as it traded points in several polls but the swapping out after coming in the Freeman computer was the big point punisher. Had it stayed in the Freeman model the team would have netted a loss of two points based on movement in the other five polls.
14 (17) |
139 |
Spartanburg (SC) | 15 | 24 | 12 | 15 | 25 | 16 |
The major move on Spartanburg came from a six-point gain on the Freeman computer as most every other poll just slid it up one spot — or down one at the Fisher model. The Vikings had a relatively easy game this past week and a rivalry game with Gaffney on the horizon as its South Carolina slate is pretty tough.
15 (16) |
125 |
Archer (GA) | 22 | 10 | 11 | 22 | 15 | — |
Archer was idle this week and stayed at nearly its exact point total from the week before. The team has a National Game of the Week candidate contest this week against Grayson. A win will boost the team towards the Top 10. A loss could put four Georgia teams in the Top 25.
16 (–) |
119 |
McEachern (GA) | 16 | 21 | 16 | 10 | 23 | — |
After pulling away in the second half against Buford a major move was made on McEachern. PrepNation jumped in with both feet moving the team from unranked to No. 10 in its poll. If the team can remain healthy — a struggle it has faced the last three years — it could be a threat to win its first-ever state title.
17 (15) |
112 |
Clay-Chalkville (AL) | — | 11 | 18 | 20 | 19 | 25 |
Escaping 41-40 this week was not a good showing by Clay-Chalkville and the polls reflected that for the most part. The Cougars gave up a state-record for rushing yards allowed and fell out of the HSFB100 from its No. 18 spot last week nearly out of the Top 50. It slid three at PrepNation and two on MaxPreps. The USAToday was unchanged as was the Fisher algorithm. The Computer was the lone buyer as it moved it into the Top 25 helping to remain somewhat steady on its point total.
18 (19) |
107 |
American Heritage (FL) | 9 | 16 | 19 | 13 | — | — |
American Heritage lost after it pushed a game-tying extra point right against DeMatha. The result was nearly a non-factor for the program as it stayed just inside the Top 20. It will face some stiff competition within the district, too.
19 (23) |
98 |
Mater Dei (CA) | 21 | — | — | 21 | 13 | 11 |
Mater Dei won again this week and had to turn to prized freshman quarterback TJ Daniels as well. It could usher in the next great passer for the program if he can get some seasoning before the grinders of the Trinity League take hold. The team added placement at PrepNation to get into a fourth poll.
20 (24) |
86 |
Mainland (FL) | 24 | — | 13 | 24 | 17 | — |
Mainland was nearly unchanged in the three polls that had previously ranked the Buccaneers. It gained entry into the HSFB100 to boost its total points. The HSFB100 was first on the scene with the program last year but fourth on the wagon this year.
21 (21) |
84 |
South Panola (MS) | — | — | 15 | — | 14 | 10 |
The Tigers stayed flat this week as the team gained a few spots at MaxPreps and one in the Freeman computer as it sat idle this week. A suddenly interesting game is set for Thursday as Madison Central (MS) has opened the year with three impressive victories. The victor will stake to the top spot in the state for the early going.
22 (–) |
77 |
Colerain (OH) | 20 | 9 | — | 17 | — | — |
A 13-10 overtime victory over St. Xavier (Cincinnati, OH) helped push the Cardinals into the poll. It opened with a win over Warren Central (Indianapolis, IN) and has added St. X. Next week it will play La Salle (Cincinnati, OH) which is also receiving votes for this poll. The winner figures to be into the low-teens next Tuesday.
23 (–) |
75 |
Bergen Catholic (NJ) | — | — | 25 | 25 | 24 | 15 |
Bergen Catholic beat down American Heritage-Delray to the tune of 37-7 and moved to the top spot in New Jersey. The Crusaders have a revenge game this week against St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, NJ) which embarrassed the team twice last year. It could be a muscle flexing opportunity for the program.
24t (–) |
69 |
Louisville Trinity (KY) | 18 | 22 | — | — | — | 14 |
The Shamrocks blew out an overmatched Lafayette team last week but the turnover at the bottom of the poll pushed the team into the rankings after it was just on the outside last week. It faces Male this coming weekend and that could be the highest ranked game in Louisville or Kentucky football history.
24t (–) |
69 |
St. Edward (OH) | — | 18 | — | — | 16 | 20 |
St. Edward defeated Gilman (Baltimore, MD) two weeks ago and followed it up by blowing out Glenville (Cleveland, OH) this week. Both of the computer models like the Eagles where as only the USAToday is bought in — as it has been all season, having the team nationally ranked since preseason.
Dropped From the Media Compilation Top 25:
Previous No. 14 Mallard Creek (Charlotte, NC); No. 18 Paramus Catholic (NJ); No. 20 Chandler (AZ); No. 22 Martin (Arlington, TX), and No. 25 La Salle (Cincinnati, OH) .
