McNick comes back to clip Anderson
- Updated: September 5, 2015
Despite being up 7-0 going into Day Two of the weather-delayed neighborhood rivalry, Anderson could not hold on to its lead on Saturday, losing to McNicholas, 24-21 at Penn Station Stadium in Mount Washington.
After a Patrick Johnson seven-yard rush put the Redskins up 7-0 on Friday night, severe storms rolled through the Tri-State area, postponing the game until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Once play resumed, McNicholas’ Cole Carmosion kicked a field goal to put the Rockets on the board.
The scoring went back and forth throughout the rest of the first half. A McNicholas touchdown from a Adam Hirsch, a four-yard run, gave the Rockets a brief 10-7 lead.
That lead didn’t last long, as Anderson responded with a one-yard quarterback sneak by quarterback Dylan Smith. The Rockets kicked a field goal as time expired, making it 14-13.
After a McNicholas field goal to begin the second half, Anderson took back the lead on a 64-yard run by Smith to give Anderson a 21-16 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, a 50-yard pass from Rockets quarterback Cam Haynes put the Rockets up for good, giving them a 24-21 victory over Anderson for the second year in a row.
McNicholas (1-1) will return to Penn Station Stadium on Sept. 11 to host Wyoming while Anderson (0-2) travels to Harrison.
