Road warrior Beechwood wins at Somerset
- Updated: September 4, 2015
Beechwood is off to a 2-0 start, with both wins coming on the road.
But unlike last week when the Tigers won at nearby Lloyd, they traveled two hours south to small-school power Somerset and blew out the previously-unbeaten Briar Jumpers, 48-14 on Friday.
“I think what it does for us is it will mean something for us down the road – obviously every time you win it means something – but if we go to the semifinals we’re going to have to go on the road if we’re fortunate enough to get there,” Beechwood coach Noel Rash said. “Getting on a bus and traveling, and all that entails, we were able to do that tonight.”
Senior running back Ethan Stringer finished with 256 of the Tigers’ 356 ground yards, scoring four touchdowns on 28 carries.
“He’s just ratcheting up his game from last year,” Rash said. “We’re extremely pleased, he’s fun to coach and fun to be around, and obviously he’s extremely talented. He’s running like a man, that’s the best way I can describe it.”
Senior quarterback Kyle Fieger was 9 of 12 passing for 149 yards and one score.
The Tigers, who finished with 505 yards of total offense, is off next week and will open its home schedule vs. Covington Catholic at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18.
