Fenwick Falcons Fly to Top of GCL Co-eds – The contest between TriStateFootball.com’s top two rated teams in its Division IV-VII lived up to its billing and then some. Home team and No. 1 ranked Badin (4-1, 1-1) did what no one else has been able to do versus Bishop Fenwick and that is score points. The Rams put up 31 points but it wasn’t enough to take down the soaring Falcons. Bishop Fenwick (5-0, 2-0) came into the game ranked No. 2 after last week’s shutout of Alter. They had given up just eight points on the season heading into Friday night’s affair. Fenwick needed every last one of its season-high 38 points to lasso the Rams. The Falcons have won nine straight games dating back to last season. Their last loss was to next week’s foe, McNicholas.
Beavercreek 28, Bishop Hartley 24
Down 17-0 with less than four minutes left until halftime Beavercreek (4-1) did not stray from what got them to this point. Behind the running of seniors Hunter Maloney and Tim Bradshaw the Battlin’ Beavers mounted an epic comeback victory at Bishop Hartley. Hunter scored the game winner with just eight ticks left on the scoreboard. Bradshaw finished the game with 153 yards and three touchdowns on 42 carries. He’s run for more than 100 yards in all five games this fall. His season totals now stand at 793 yards and nine touchdowns rushing. Battlin’ Beavers will host Northmont to open GWOC Central play.
Springboro 48, Northmont 27
Elijah Cunningham threw a career high six touchdown passes as Springboro (4-1) as they took out Northmont (1-4). Half of Cunningham’s scoring tosses came before the game was 10 minutes old as the Panthers built a 21-0 advantage. The senior threw for 283 yards. It was the fifth straight game he has surpassed the 200-yard barrier. Nick Kovacs and Alex Feldman each had three touchdowns catches. Kovacs ended up with 10 receptions for 185 yards. He is hot right now with three straight games with at least seven receptions and 117 yards receiving. Feldman reeled in eight balls for 83 yards and is on pace for an 80 reception campaign.
Trotwood-Madison 41, Lebanon 31
In less than an eight minute span Raveion Hargrove scored three unanswered touchdowns as Trotwood-Madison (4-1) went from trailing by three to its largest lead of the night at 28-10 over Lebanon. It would be a lead that the Rams would never relinquish. Hargrove, a sophomore ran the ball 21 times for 268 yards and four scores (both career highs. He also had a 77-yard touchdown catch). He has run for 1,133 yards and 14 touchdowns at the midway point of the season. Four times Hargrove has rushed for 216 yards or more. Lebanon quarterback Dakota Allen threw for a career high 451 yards. Cody Brown caught 11 balls for 180 yards and two scores for the Rams. That upped Brown’s season totals to 49 receptions for 647 yards and 10 touchdowns. This was the third win for Division III Trotwood-Madison over a Division I squad.
Missed Opportunities – Centerville (2-3) and Lebanon (2-3) both had a chance to help their playoff causes versus teams that had already amassed quality wins. Elder shredded Centerville putting the Elks post-season chances in serious jeopardy. The Centerville defense is allowing 41.8 points and 531.4 yards per game. Lebanon has racked up more than 4000 yards of total offense in every contest. The Warriors have a 6.8 point margin of victory but are still giving up 35 points per contest. The lack of being able to stop its foes has led to just two wins for Lebanon.
Central Buckeye Beat Down – Another season of crossover battles in the Central Buckeye Conference came to an end. The CBC Kenton division went 6-0 on Friday night versus its smaller rivals from the CBC Mad River with the average margin of victory 32.7 points. The yearly dominance continued with the Kenton posting a 12-3 overall record over the Mad River in 2015.
Who Are These Blue Devils – No one had the vision to see that Brookville (5-0, 2-0) was going to be one of the best teams in the Southwestern Buckeye League. The Blue Devils pitched their second shutout of the season knocking off Monroe 21-0 on Friday night. They have allowed just 26 points the entire year. Senior Harry Hall and sophomore Bailey Wallen have been getting the job done on both sides of the ball. Thre of the five teams left on Brookville’s schedule have winning records.
