Best Bets: Cincinnati – Week 8
- Updated: October 14, 2015
There are not a ton of compelling matchups in Week 8 on the Ohio side, but a few dominant teams will attempt to hold service in hostile opponent territory.
The GCL South teams face some difficult out-of-conference foes, and Colerain, Indian Hill and Turpin try to stay unbeaten in conference play.
Here is a look at Week 8’s Best Bets for Cincinnati:
Colerain (6-1) at Lakota East (3-4), 7 p.m. – The lone blip on Colerain’s schedule is a 39-36 loss to La Salle on Sept. 11, after which the Cardinals have won four straight. Colerain has now thrown the ball 49 times this season, and QB Deshaunte Jones has respectable passing numbers (23-47-408-6-1), but his calling card has been his rushing, as he has gained 905 yards on the ground and scored 14 touchdowns. After a 3-1 start, Lakota East has dropped three in a row. Four of its rushers have gained over 200 yards on the ground, led by Tyler Glenn’s 705 ground yards. Like Colerain, Lakota East does not pass much, having thrown just 47 times.
Elder (5-2) at Winton Woods (4-2), 7 p.m. – Elder is coming off an overtime win vs. St. Xavier and a one-TD loss to Moeller. QB Peyton Ramsey’s sensational season continues, as he is 121 of 190 for 1,692 yards, 18 TDs and four picks, and he also leads the team with 708 rushing yards. Receivers Nick Hall and Robby Oswald have combined for over 1,200 receiving yards. Winton Woods has won three straight games, with its lone losses coming to Mason and unbeaten Glen Este.
Indian Hill (7-0) at Madeira (4-3), 7 p.m. – Indian Hill is 4-0 in CHL play, but each of its first three conference contests were decided by eight points or fewer. The Braves blew out Finneytown, 41-0 last week, as they have allowed just 11.6 points per game. QB Reed Aichholz has thrown for 1,581 yards and rushed for a team-best 642, and Nick Heidel has 511 receiving yards. All three of Madeira’s losses have been by one possession, including two CHL games. Gre Corn bas rushed for 709 yards to lead the Mustangs, who have also played stellar defense. Madeira is surrendering just 12.7 points per game and an average of just 121.6 ground yards.
St. Charles Prep (2-4) at La Salle (6-1), 7 p.m. – Columbus-based St. Charles Prep has dropped three straight games, scoring just 17 points during that streak. The Cardinals have not beaten a team with a winning record this season. Jeremy Larkin leads the GCL South in rushing yards with 835, and he had a ground TD and a receiving score vs. St. Xavier last week. The Lancers lost that game, their first defeat of the season after a 6-0 start.
Turpin (7-0) at Milford (3-4), 7 p.m. – Turpin won close games against Kings and Glen Este to start ECC play but has blown out Withrow and Anderson since. QB Tyler Pilcher has 1,878 passing yards, 17 TDs and just four picks. His top target, Jacob Hamilton, leads the conference with 640 receiving yards. Milford has lost decisively to Glen Este and Kings the past two weeks. Dawson Slone has rushed for 576 yards to lead the Eagles.
St. Xavier (5-2) at Indianapolis Warren Central (5-3), 7:30 p.m. – Warren Central saw a five-game winning streak snapped last week with a 30-20 loss to Carmel. One of the three losses on the Warriors’ slate was to Colerain on Aug. 29, which won by 11. Warren Central averaged 48.6 points during its winning streak and has already qualified for the Class 6A playoffs in Indiana. St. Xavier won, 23-14 when these teams met last year, just the second meeting between these squads in the past 30 years.
