Colerain scalps Indians
- Updated: October 2, 2015
FAIRFIELD, oh – It wasn’t the sort of homecoming that Fairfield was hoping for. The game started and play was choppy, sloppy, dreary and wet on what ended up being a gloomy night for the Indians.
After a scoreless first quarter, visiting Colerain cracked the code and put up 21 unanswered in the final 10 minutes before halftime. A stellar defensive effort added to a dominating night for the Cardinals, who would run their Greater Miami Conference winning streak to 48 games in a row.
Colerain quarterback Deshaunte Jones tied a career high with four rushing touchdowns. He ran for 149 yards on just 12 carries. Jones raised his season total to 12 rushing TDs on the year.
Backfield mate Monalo Caldwell led the Cardinals with 158 yards on 16 carries and one trip to the end zone. It was the third time in the last four weeks that Caldwell has run for 150 yards or more.
The Colerain defense held Fairfield to 46 yards on 45 plays and forced three turnovers.
“This is the fastest defense we have had since I have been here,” Cardinals head coach Tom Bolden said. “The 2004 team set the bar. We are good but not there yet. We play fast and hit hard. That’s what Colerain football is all about.”
Up next for Colerain is Lakota West, who is tied with the Cardinals atop the GMC standings at 3-0. Fairfield will look to snap its two-game skid at Lakota East who has also dropped two straight.
