CovCath outscored by Scott Co.
- Updated: October 30, 2015
CovCath matched touchdowns with Scott County for a quarter and a half, but the Cardinals’ offense was too much for the Colonels, who fell, 56-35 to wrap up their regular season.
Scott County opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, and CovCath answered with an A.J. Mayer six-yard touchdown pass to senior Cam Pitzer.
The Cardinals returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a TD, and again the Colonels responded, as Pitzer caught a 27-yard score from Mayer.
Pitzer pulled in a third-TD reception to cut Scott County’s lead to seven, 28-21 early in the third quarter, but the Cardinals punched in the next two scores to put it away.
Senior Ryan McGinness caught 82- and 64-yard touchdown passes from Mayer to cap off the CovCath scoring. Mayer finished with five TD throws.
The Colonels were outgained, 468-331, allowing 352 rushing yards.
Mayer finished 17 of 36 for 252 yards and five TDs, and McGinness had four receptions for 155 yards to pace CovCath.
The Colonels will host Anderson County in their Class 5A postseason opener next week.
