- Updated: October 23, 2015
A 48-yard field goal by Jack Nguyen as time expired lifted Lakota West to a 38-36 win over Sycamore on Friday.
Nguyen is now 3-for-3 on field goals for the year, with his previous long coming from 43 yards out.
The Aviators had taken the lead with 54 seconds left in regulation on an 18-yard TD catch by Gary Traub from Jake Borman. Sycamore trailed by seven prior to the score and went for two, converting on another pass to Traub.
The Aviators actually led by 14 points twice, 14-0 and 21-7 before the Firebirds ran off three straight TDs to take a 28-21 lead. Sycamore tied it again on a RaVon Bonner 9-yard run with 8:13 to play, and Lakota West answered less than three minutes later on a Zelwyn Robinson 43-yard carry.
Danny Otakasongo rushed for a game-best 174 yards for the Firebirds. Robinson rushed for 99 yards.
Clarence Dawson paced Sycamore with 163 ground yards. Bonner added 88 rushing yards and 92 more receiving yards.
Lakota West will wrap up its regular season schedule at Lakota East while Sycamore visits Mason.
