Mason Thumps Hawks
- Updated: October 2, 2015
After losing to Colerain in the first Greater Miami Conference matchup of the year, the Mason Comets have won back-to-back conference games after defeating the Lakota East Thunderhawks, 28-7, at home on Friday night.
Mason’s first six of 28 unanswered points came in the first quarter when sophomore running back Matt Sora soared into the end zone on a one-yard run.
The Comets’ senior running back Bryson White extended the lead on a big 93-yard run in the second quarter. After a Grant Kramer extra point, the Comets took a 14-0 lead into halftime.
The second half began much like the first half when White caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Preston Hutchinson to put Mason up 21-0 after three quarters.
After an 11-yard Sora touchdown run to put the Comets up by 28, Lakota East finally got on the board late in the fourth quarter when junior Tyler VanFossen found the end zone on a one-yard run.
White finished with 132 yards on nine carries with a rushing touchdown. He also accumulated one reception on 20 yards with one receiving touchdown. Sora ended with 72 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.
VanFossen led the Hawks’ offense with 116 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown.
Mason (4-2, 2-1 GMC) will travel to Princeton for another GMC matchup next week, while Lakota East (3-3, 1-2 GMC) goes back home to take on Fairfield.
