Owls Rule the SWOC
- Updated: October 31, 2015

CINCINNATI – They say that cats have nine lives, and Mount Healthy star quarterback David Montgomery and his Owls teammates exhausted all of them in route to 27-24 win over Northwest on Friday.
As a result, Mount Healthy won its fourth straight Southwestern Ohio Conference title outright.
A whirlwind of a finish saw Mount Healthy run its SWOC winning streak to 20 in a row.
“I was shaking,” said Montgomery of the furious and explosive finish to the night. “I’ve never shaken like that before.”
It wasn’t pretty, as penalties and mental mistakes plagued the victors all night. Lost yardage made the night an uphill battle.
Northwest had to win to keep its playoff hopes at least glimmering. The Knights had the ball in the red zone at the Mount Healthy 14 and could not convert on four tries with just under three minutes left. A touchdown would have given Northwest the lead.
Montgomery would strike quick with an 86-yard touchdown run. It gave the Owls a 27-17 lead. It was his third rushing touchdown on the night and 36th of the season.
A great time management drive ensued, orchestrated by Northwest quarterback Brandon Shelton. A short touchdown run by Devonte Faulkner pulled the Knights to within three.
The Northwest special teams would do its part executing a successful onside kick. With less than a minute left Shelton went to work again. He drove the Knights into field goal range. Mount Healthy would get a hand on the kick. That changed the trajectory of a ball that fell just feet short of ending Mount Healthy’s season.
Mount Healthy will go at it next Friday night with in the Division III, Region 10 playoffs against on opponent to be named on Sunday. Despite the loss Northwest finishes the year with a fifth consecutive winning season at 6-4.
