Reading gets past Wyoming
- Updated: October 23, 2015
Reading defeated Wyoming, 28-20, at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium Friday night to remain unbeaten, setting up a matchup against Indian Hill for the CHL Championship.
That sets up the Blue Devils’ first conference championship since sharing the title in 2003.
Reading senior running back Neriah Brooks gained 142 yards and two touchdowns. Brooks scored on a 68-yard run in the first quarter to open the game’s scoring, and scored on a 27-yard run in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Sam Ashbrook threw two touchdowns to receiver Mancini Jackson.
After Brooks opened the scoring, Wyoming answered with a 5-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Joey Edwards to his brother Jack Edwards.
Wyoming took a 12-7 lead in the second quarter, but Reading drove 69 yards and finished the drive with a Joey Edwards pass to Ashbrook to lead 14-12 at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Reading scored 14 unanswered points to take a 28-12 lead, and give them a cushion.
This is the first time since 2002 that Reading is 9-0 and the last time Reading won the CHL championship outright.
Wyoming is still in the hunt for a playoff berth. The Cowboys are ranked sixth in Division IV Region 14 and play Deer Park next Friday.
