Roundup: NKY – Week 6
- Updated: October 3, 2015
A light schedule in Northern Kentucky did not deter from big happenings taking places in Week 6. Here is a look at who is hot south of the Ohio River.
Bearcats Breaking Out – After a tough 0-4 start, Walton-Verona (3-4, 2-0) has gotten back into its accustomed winning ways. The Bearcats have reeled off three straight victories positioning themselves atop the Class 2A, District 5 standings. The surge has been led by terrific defense along with running backs Halsey Page and Noah Richardson. With three games left the only team that the Bearcats will face with a winning record is New Richmond in the regular season finale.
Ryle Pouring It On – An explosive Ryle (6-0) continues to light up the scoreboard after a 49-10 beat down of George Rogers Clark on Friday night. The Raiders have scored 52, 48, 52 and 49 points in their victories over the past four weeks. They are now averaging 44.5 points per contest. Ryle has spread the wealth as 10 different players had found the end zone on offense entering the tilt with GRC. None of those players had more than five touchdowns.
Those Marvelous Mustangs – Bishop Brossart (6-0) is off to its best start in school history. The Mustangs win over Ludlow on Friday night gave the program its first ever six game-winning streak. The Mustangs have four victories by seven points or fewer. Bishop Brossart which is in its ninth season as a football program has never had more than six victories in a season.
Great Scott – A once desolate Scott football program continues to rise from the ashes. The Eagles improved to (6-1, 2-0) after shutting out Harrison County, 43-0. It was the fifth time this fall that Scott has held an opponent to seven points or fewer. The offense is also getting it done averaging more than 44 points over the last six tilts. Friday night’s win insured the Eagles of a third straight winning season.
Beechwood Aged – The boys from Fort Mitchell are hitting their stride just in time for District play. Beechwood has scored 124 points over its last two outings. The 69 points that the Tigers posted versus Newport on Friday were the teams most in a game since September 2011. That Beechwood team topped the 60-point mark seven times in a nine week span.
