Tipped TD Pass Leads to Connor Win
- Updated: October 2, 2015
It was a rainy night at Cecil Dees Field on Friday night, leading to a low-scoring game between the Conner Cougars and Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts, but it was Conner who came out on top 6-0 to extend its win streak to four.
Conner was facing Lloyd for the first time as a 6A school, and the first time since 2012. That meeting in 2012 was also low-scoring, with the Juggernauts beating the Cougars 3-0.
The lone score in tonight’s matchup came late in the fourth quarter when Conner senior quarterback Kyler Padgett’s 21-yard pass to senior wide receiver Joseph Warwick was tipped by a Lloyd defender. Luckily for Conner, Warwick caught it in the end zone for the only points of the game. The extra point was no good.
Conner (5-1) will return home next week for its district opener against Campbell County, while Llyod (4-2) will travel to Newport to take on the Wildcats in district action.
