WCPO Player of the Week – Week 6

Mercy Orthopedics has partnered with WCPO 9 On Your Side and TriStateFootball.com to present the High School Football Player of the Week for the 2015 regular season. Players will be nominated from the Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Eastern Indiana areas.
Each week 10-14 nominees will be selected from a large list of some of the area’s top performances and will be included in an online voting poll to determine a winner. The voting is open from now until Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. ET. Voters can vote once per hour, per IP address.
Once a player wins, they will be ineligible to be nominated a second time. All of the season winners will be recognized and receive a plaque at the TriStateFootball.com Year in Review Show in February at Holy Grail Banks (more details announced during postseason).
Here are this week’s nominations:
Derrick Barnes, Holy Cross, LB – He recorded 18 total tackles (11 solo) in helping the Indians scalp Bethlehem.
Ra’Von Bonner, Sycamore, ATH – The Avaitor rushed for 332 yards on 31 carries, amassed 414 all-purpose yards and found the end zone four times, including on a 79-yard kickoff return vs. Princeton.
Robby Boone, Glen Este, RB – Boone registered 300 yards on 25 carries, had two receptions for 39 yards and scored five touchdowns, (4 RuTD, 1 ReTD) In Glen Este’s win over Milford.
Nathan Brown, Cooper, QB – Cooper’s signal caller threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns as the Jaguars took down Dixie Heights.
Will Coker, Woodward, RB – He found the end zone six times (five rushing, one receiving) with 231 yards rushing and 87 yards more receiving.
Kyle Evans, Williamsburg, CB – Evans came up with an interception and recovered a fumble for a touchdown as Williamsburg fought off Blanchester.
P.J. Johnston, New Miami, RB/LB – On defense Johnston recorded 1.5 sacks. He ran for 206 yards and two touchdowns on offense. On special teams, he averaged 38.7 on three punts and averaged 24.3 yards on kickoff returns in the Vikings’ victory over St. Bernard.
Deshaunte Jones, Colerain, WB – The senior had 149 yards rushing and four touchdowns on just 12 carries as the Cardinals rained on Fairfield’s Homecoming parade.
Joe Onorato, Elder, K – The Panther place kicker nailed a 37-yard extra point in overtime to give the Panthers life and eventual victory over rival Moeller. He finished the game perfect, hitting all three of his extra points and his lone field goal attempt.
Justin Shields, Wyoming, RB – He picked up 185 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as Wyoming shutout Mariemont.
Gerald Smith, Harrison, WR – Smith touched the ball six times, accrued 231 all-purpose yards with touchdowns on a 65-yard run, 39-yard reception and a 70-yard kickoff return as Harrison handled Western Brown.
Michael Williamson, New Richmond, RB – The Lions’ running back carried the ball nine times for 150 yards and three rushing touchdowns as the Lions roared past Amelia.
