Fenwick completes sweep of Badin
- Updated: November 7, 2015
The Greater Catholic League‘s Co-Ed Division was showcased on Saturday night as the top-seeded and undefeated Bishop Fenwick Falcons hosted the eighth-seeded Badin Rams.
After three scoreless quarters of action the final frame saw three different players find the end zone, including Nathan Jeffers who punched in a 1-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds left in the game to lift Fenwick (11-0) to a thrilling 14-7 victory.
When the two teams met back in Week 5 at Badin (7-4), they combined for 69 points as Fenwick prevailed by seven points. Saturday’s playoff match-up was the quite the contrast even with the margin of defeat being the same. The teams were able to move the ball, but early neither squad could capitalize and finish drives out.
Jeffers scored the game-winning TD, but it senior Michael Sheridan that led the Falcons on the ground. He rushed for 117 yards and his team’s first touchdown on 19 carries.
The Rams only score came on a fourth-quarter TD pass from Zach Larkin to Phillip Dozier. Dozier finished the night leading all receivers with nine catches for 111 yards. Classmate Cody Boxrucker was held to 27 yards on 13 attempts.
Now Fenwick will turns its attention to another GCL Co-Ed foe, the Alter Knights, in a TDB location next Saturday night in Round 2 action of the Ohio Division IV, Region 14 playoffs.
