In an all-Cincinnati Hills League battle, the Region 14, #2-seed and unbeaten Indian Hill Braves earned their first playoff win in nearly eight years, knocking off #7-seed Wyoming 31-14 in the first round of the Ohio Division IV playoffs Saturday night in Indian Hill.
The win was the second time this year that Indian Hill had beaten Wyoming, the Braves winning 19-14 in the regular=season game at Wyoming.
Reed Aichholz, a 6-foot-5 junior, threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more for the unbeaten Braves. His brother, junior running back Dawson Aichholz, caught one of his touchdown passes, while junior wide receiver Eric Heidel caught the other.
Reed Aichholz got things started in the first with a 2-yard run to make it 7-0 Braves, but Wyoming’s Justin Shields knotted things up at 7-7 near the end of the first quarter.
Indian Hill (11-0) retook the lead when the Aichholzs hooked up for a six-yard pass from Reed to Dawson to make it 14-7. Heidel kicked a 43-yard halftime before halftime to give the Braves a 17-7 lead at the break.
Wyoming (8-3) hung around, however, and cut the lead to just a field goal when freshman quarterback Joey Edmonds hit Mason Rodgers on a 92-yard pass play to make it 17-14 with just under 5:00 left in the third.
The Braves quickly struck back when Heidel caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Reed Aichholz to make it 24-14 with 1:58 left in the third quarter. With 2:46 left in the game, Reed capped the scoring with a one yard run to make it 31-14 Indian Hill.
Indian Hill faces Clinton-Massie (10-1) next Saturday in the second round at a site to be determined. The third-seeded Falcons knocked off Taft 70-14 in the first round.
Wyoming, who lost starting junior quarterback Andrew Marty in their third game of the year, has made the playoffs three years in a row and, like Indian Hill, will several key underclassmen in 2016.
