Roundup: Indiana – Sectional Finals
- Updated: November 7, 2015
It was Sectional Finals weekend in the Hoosier state and three EIAC teams were in action. Here’s a look at how they fared in Friday’s match-ups.
East Central 58, Seymour 6
East Central (10-2) head coach Justin Roden had a rocky start to his career three years ago. The Trojans lost four of their first five games under Roden in 2013. Since that time the program has gone 21-9 and now has a Sectional title under their young coach after dismantling a hot Seymour team on Friday night.
Quarterback Luke Patton was too much for the Owls to handle. The East Central senior was outstanding both running and passing the football. His classmate Doug Rosemeyer ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns. Rosemeyer and Patton have each ran for more than 1,300 yards on the season. The 58 points that East Central scored was its second highest total of the year and fourth time in the last seven outings that they have scored 49 points or more.
East Central will host the surprising Evansville Harrison Wildcats (10-2) in a Class 4A regional final. It promises to be a high-scoring affair as both offenses are clicking on all cylinders. Harrison captured its first sectional crown since 1997. The Wildcats have never won a regional. The Trojans will be looking for their sixth regional championship in school history and first since 2003.
Batesville 29, Lawrenceburg 17
Getting out to an early lead was important for Batesville (11-1) as they survived a nip-and-tuck contest with rival Lawrenceburg (8-4) to win the Class 3A, Sectional 30 championship. A pair of touchdowns during a five-minute span of the third quarter broke open a 10-10 halftime tie for the Bulldogs. Lawrenceburg pulled to within six points less than a minute into the fourth stanza, but Batesville found a way to hold them out of the end zone the rest of the way.
The victory gave the Bulldogs their ninth sectional crown in school history and eighth since 2001. The only regional crown for Batesville came in 1986.
Next up, the Bulldogs will face powerhouse Indianapolis Chatard (8-3) on the road for the regional title. Since 2001 the Trojans have won 12 regional championships in the last 14 seasons.
