- Updated: November 7, 2015
Class acts advance in Region 10
The usual suspects in Division III, Region 10 used to be the usual suspects in Division II, Region 8 just a few years back. Prominent programs, Wapakoneta, Trotwood-Madison, Tippecanoe and Mount Healthy all won their opening round affairs. This quartet of schools has seen all appear in at least one regional finals over the past two seasons. Trotwood-Madison (8-3) took a step closer to its sixth straight regional crown after mowing down Celina, 44-14. Its opponent will be Tippecanoe (10-1), which continues to win in November after handling Piqua (6-5) in a solid defensive performance. The Red Devils were ousted by Trotwood-Madison in the 2013 Region 10 finals. Wapakoneta (11-0) found first time playoff member Belmont (7-3) to be a worthy foe coming out on top, 44-22, over the Bisons. The Redskins will face Mount Healthy who has been in the Division II, Region 6 regional finals in each of the past two years.
Shutouts and Shootouts in Region 18
Top-seeded Brookville remained unbeaten, blanking Carlisle, 41-0. It was the third shutout of the season for the Blue Devils and the seventh opponent that it has held to seven points or fewer. The final nail in the coffin for the Indians was a 100-yard pick six by Brookville’s Michael Landers. Coldwater (11-0) also remained perfect putting an end to the fairy-tale campaign for Bethel-Tate (6-4), 42-0. The Tigers’ first-ever playoff appearance was an unfortunate trip to titletown. The Cavaliers recorded their fifth shutout of the year. Coldwater has given up seven points or fewer 10 times and 14 points in its other tilt. A furious comeback and 20 unanswered second-half points were one too few as Milton-Union (6-5) saw its season end when the extra point on their final touchdown failed. Greenview (7-3) escapes the Bulldogs with a 35-34 win behind three first half touchdown runs by Colin Matt.
CHCA 49, North Union 27
The CHCA (10-1) offense is a load to handle and North Union (5-6) witnessed its explosiveness first hand on Friday night. Eagles head coach Eric Taylor has many options but his No. 1 weapon is quarterback Johnny Noyen. The senior amassed 311 yards of total offense (182 rushing, 129 passing) and accounted for five touchdowns (three rushing, two passing) in tormenting the Wildcats. Receiver Adam Baker caught three passes for 129 yards and all went for touchdowns. CHCA will prepare for a rematch with unbeaten Coldwater. The Eagles are out to avenge a 34-3 loss to the Cavaliers in last year’s final four.
Fort Recovery 62, MVCA 34
Four different players had scored touchdowns for Fort Recovery (9-2) before the first quarter was over. The Indians scored a season-high 62 points, beating their previous high by 21. Will Homan had ran for four touchdowns before intermission and Fort Recovery scored the first 41 points of the contest. A trio of touchdowns by Brandon Conklin was the highlight for MVCA (8-2). The Lions have now made the postseason in each of their first two seasons of OHSAA-sanctioned football. MVCA still has work to do in order to take the next step in November.
