Freshman Bledsoe not a lost Lancer
- Updated: December 3, 2015
Friday night freshman Garrett Bledsoe will start at linebacker in the state championship game for La Salle. It is quite an accomplishment for the 5-foot-11, 200 pound Bledsoe who never dreamed he be in this position 15 weeks ago. Very rarely do freshmaen get to play in the GCL South and at the Division I level. It takes a special talent to get and stay on the field and Bledsoe had the make up to do just that.
If you are looking for Bledsoe on the gcls.gclsports.com web site you won’t find him in the stats. The number 16 he wears was assigned to another player before the season started and the roster was never updated.
Bledsoe’s work has been done in mostly anonymity tot the public but not in the eyes of the Lancers coaches and fans. He took over as a starter in Week 4 of the season and has gone on to post 53 total tackles with two sacks. What did La Salle head coach Jim Hilvert see in the freshman that made him think the youngster could play and be successful at the varsity level? “Garrett has a good nose for the ball and does a great job getting to it. He has a high football IQ” Hilvert said.
The pressure of the big game hasn’t seemed to bother Bledsoe, either. “No moment has been too big for him,” Hilvert said. With nerves of steel like that look for the freshman to come up big again in the title tilt and for the next three years to come.
