All-TSF: Wide Receiver Primer

Gifted and versatile would be the best way to sum up the receiver position in 2015. Finding ways to get the ball into the hands of this talented group of nominees was a top priority for their coaches. Whether it was catching or running the football these receivers found a way to steal the spotlight once they touched the pigskin. This is truly a unique set of game breakers on our ballot.

Here is a look at the wide receiver nominees for the 2015 Postseason All-TFS Team:

BY THE NUMBERS: The list of nominees on the ballot includes 24 seniors, five juniors and four sophomores.

1,000 YARD CLUB: Eleven of our nominees gained more than 1,000 yards receiving in ’15 – Ogletree (1,493), Matthews (1,364), Smith-Cochran (1,311), Kovacks (1,190), Hornung (1,090), Hall (1,170), Hendrix (1,150), Howard (1,130), Bauer (1,107), Brown (1,052) and T. Smith (1,007).

HORNUNG HALL: It was an incredible four varsity seasons for Hornung at Western Brown. He finished his career with 251 receptions for 3,869 yards and 37 touchdown catches.

HOWARD’S CURTAIN CALL: Purcell Marian’s Howard had a monster finish to his senior year. In the last three games the Cavaliers’ receiver combined to catch 28 passes for 462 yards with eight touchdown receptions.

RED HOT HENDRIX: One of the most dominating stretches of football in Northern Kentucky this past year belonged to Cooper’s Hendrix. The Jaguars’ junior had three straight games with eight receptions, totaling 567 yards and seven touchdowns in Weeks 5-7.

CLASS OF 2017 TOUCHDOWN MACHINES: The five juniors on our ballot combined for 78 touchdowns last season – Robinson (21), Kovacs (19), Hendrix (16), Wilcox (15) and Driskell (7). A pair of hybrid receivers who can beat you running or receiving, Robinson found the end zone 18 times on the ground last fall while Wilcox has 40 career touchdowns (22 receiving, 18 rushing).

RECORD BREAKING BAUER: The record books were shattered at Waynesville as Bauer caught 68 passes for 1,107 yards. The Spartans’ senior became the school’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches on his way to setting seven records in ’15.

COMMITTED: Five receivers have made their verbal commitments – Riggins (Indiana), Dunbar (BGSU), Oneal (BGSU)and Hall (Indiana State), Wells (Davenport).
