Ryle edges Cooper in a shootout

Ryle had a seven-point lead five times in the first half and fell behind by a touchdown after the before rallying to beat Cooper, 49-42 on Friday.

The first half featured five ties, as the teams traded touchdowns en route to a 35-35 score after two quarters.

Jake Chisholm rushed 20 times for 218 yards and three touchdowns, and he ran back the opening kickoff for a fourth TD.

“This was the first game that we really were in a dog fight,” Chisholm said. “The other games were mostly blowouts, but this one showed what we were really made of.”

The Raiders’ Tanner Morgan finished 10 of 16 for 156 yards and a touchdown, and Bryce Ashley caught four passes for 103 yards.

Jarod Lonaker was 25-for-38 for 301 yards and four scores for the Jaguars. Dante Hendrix ended the night with 13 catches for 155 yards and three touchdowns.

Cooper’s Jaden Jackson also gained 148 yards on the ground, scoring twice. The Jaguars outgained Ryle, 469-460.

“Cooper is a heck of a football team, a great offensive team,” Ryle coach Mike Engler said. “Dante Hendrix is one of the best wide receivers in the state. I told the team that we could definitely see them again.”

The Raiders are off to a 7-0 start and will travel to Conner for their final road game of the season next week. The Jaguars have two more home games remaining, including next week against Boone County.
