Week 10: TSF Rankings Update
- Updated: October 24, 2016
For the first team since Week 5 we have a new No. 1 in one our four TSF Team Rankings. In Northern Kentucky, second-ranked Ryle knocked off Simon Kenton to wrestle the top spot away from the Pioneers.
The only other top-ranked team to lose their hold on No. 1 this season was Indian Hill in our Ohio Division IV-VII Team Rankings. The Braves relinquished the position to Alter after a Week 4 loss to Wyoming. La Salle and Colerain have been the top teams in our Ohio Division I and Division II-III Team Rankings all year long.
The regular-season finales will be filled with suspense as teams are vying for playoff berths. Things are especially interesting in the GMC where several teams remain alive in the postseason hunt. We are geared up for some wild action to end 2016. This promises to be one of the most heart-wrenching Fridays of the entire year. Emotions will run wild as the 2016 regular season comes to a close.
Here is a look at how things wound up in this week’s update:
RANKINGS – OHIO DI
Colerain rolled to a ninth straight win, knocking off Lakota West 31-0. The Cardinals stay atop our TSF Ohio Division Rankings for another week.
It has been a rough stretch for the GCL South’s Division I squads. St. Xavier dropped its third straight, falling to St. Ignatius on Saturday afternoon.
The Bombers drop two spots in this week poll. Moeller falls out of the rankings after a fifth straight loss.
The Crusaders were also eliminated from the playoffs for a second consecutive year. That’s the first time that has happened since 1994 & 1995.
With the postseason berth on the line, a matchup for Sycamore with Mason this Friday is one of the highlights of the schedule.
RANKINGS – OHIO DII-DIII
La Salle and Trotwood-Madison continue to appears to be the odds-on-favorites in Ohio Division II and Division III respectively. The Lancers remained the top-ranked team in the TSF Ohio Division II-III Rankings for a 26th straight week.
It was Harrison who made itself the center of attention last weekend. The Wildcats took out previously unbeaten Mount Healthy and catapulted into the rankings. They replaced Princeton, who lost for a third straight time.
The loss by the Owls sees them take a three-spot dive as they were the only squad in the top nine to fall. Mount Healthy can still grab a share of a fifth straight SWOC title with a victory over once beaten Edgewood in the finale.
Every team in the top 10 will play a rivalry game to close out the season. Squads will look to avoid an upset and a loss of momentum heading into the playoffs.
RANKINGS – OHIO DIV-DVII
Nine of the top 10 teams were victorious once again showing the strength of the small schools elite. Taft lost to Dunbar. That sent the Senators reeling down three spots. They are the only team in the rankings with more than one loss.
All that prosperity may change in Week 10. There are plenty of comers ready to play spoiler to end 2016. Alter, CHCA and Dunbar need to be very cognizant of unranked opponents, who would love nothing better than to put a notch in their belts.
The best game of the weekend could be up north. A pair of 9-0 squads Indian Lake and Benjamin Logan will square off for the CBC Kenton Trail title. It is the equivalent of the Chicago Cubs facing the Cleveland Indians. No one would have ever predicted it.
RANKINGS – NKY
The biggest game of the season in Northern Kentucky lived up to the hype as Ryle bested Simon Kenton. The Raiders supplanted the Pioneers at the top of the charts. They are the only remaining unbeaten area team south of the Ohio River.
A defensive battle saw Conner hold on to its spot in the ranking as they ousted Cooper, 18-7. The only loss in the last seven contests for the Cougars was to Ryle. In all of those wins Conner never gave up more than 14 points.
District play is over. This will be the last chance to work out the kinks before the postseason starts. Beechwood at NewCath and CovCath hosting Scott County will have playoff vibes this coming weekend in the Bluegrass State.
