Defense lifts Turpin over Harrison

Turpin’s defense and special teams scored three straight touchdowns on Friday.
That was a part of a five-TD surge that lifted the Spartans to a 40-14 win 40-14 over Harrison in a first-round playoff game.
The teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter before Lucas Smith ran in a 4-yard score to put Turpin ahead for good.
Midway through the second quarter, Lang Evans returned an interception 70 yards to make it 20-7. Nathan Hooper also ran back a pick for a score, going 91 yards to extend the lead to 19.

Luke Bohenek rushed for 226 yards on 18 carries, scoring from 63 yards out to open the scoring and again on a 75-yard run to cap off the Spartans’ scoring.
“He’s really special,” Turpin coach Rob Stoll said. “You saw tonight what he was doing all year last year. He was hurt and he’s now back in his Luke Bohenek form.”
The Spartans held the Wildcats to minus-6 rushing yards, giving the team momentum heading into next week’s meeting with area power La Salle.
“This defense gives us a chance (vs. La Salle),” Stoll said. “If you beat Moeller, beat St. Xavier, and beat Elder, you’re a special ball club. We get that we have a huge mountain to climb but this defense gives us a chance.”
Harrison was led by QB Frankie Young’s 231 passing yards, with Gerald Smith catching 11 of those passes for 97 yards.
