Lawrenceburg ends drought
- Updated: November 12, 2016
For the first time in 31 years Lawrenceburg (12-1) is regional champions. The Tigers took down Danville (11-2) with a second half surge, 37-20.
For the seventh straight game Lawrenceburg running back Austin Bowling found the end zone four times (or more). The senior finished the night with 242 yards and the four scores rushing. He now has 49 touchdowns and 2,812 yards on the ground for the season.
If it is any consolation for Danville they did hold Lawrenceburg to its lowest point total during its current eight game winning streak. The Warriors who trailed 14-13 at halftime had no answers for Bowling. He just wore their defense down after the break.
Tigers quarterback Reid Strobl finished the game going 5-7 for 115 yards. Jordan Houze caught two of those passes for 81 yards. The score could have been even worse as Houze was stripped of the ball heading into the end zone on a great play by Danville’s Ben Stephens on the first drive of the second half by Lawrenceburg.
Lawrenceburg will host Brownstown Central (12-1) Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the semistate round of the Class 3A playoffs. Brownstown is about 75 miles west of Lawrenceburg on Route 50 just past Seymour, Indiana and between Bloomington and Louisville. As good as the Braves have been under coach Reed May who is 240-47 in 24th year at the school, they have never won a semistate game. Their win Friday night against Evansville Memorial was just the third regional title in the programs history and first since 2008.
