All-TSF: Defensive Linemen Primer

This is one outstanding group of “speed rushers” and “lane cloggers” who are nominated for the 2016 All-TSF team at the defensive linemen position. There is a wealthy of talent among our nominations and it is distributed fairly even between the seniors, juniors and sophomores who made the list.

REIGELSPERGER IN RARE COMPANY: Reigelsperger is one of just four returning defensive players and the only one that was a sophomore elected First Team All-TSF a year ago.
THREE’S A CHARM: This is the third nomination for Cage, Hines and King. In ’15, Cage was a Second Team All-TSF selection. Hines and King were Third Team All-TSF selections. All three will play Division I football next fall.
ENCORE PERFORMANCE: Making their second straight nomination are – Michael Carter, Cox, Human, King, Toraye Martin, Reigelsperger, Rogers, Sichterman, Vann and Walker. Sichterman recorded 15.0 sacks this season for Kings. It was his second straight season of 10 or more sacks.
THE NEWBIES: Seven sophomores are making their debut nomination and ironically none of them are from the same conference – Bono (GCL), Briggs (ECC), Evans (SWBL), Faucheux (GMC), Lawrence (NKY), Newburg (GWOC) and Phelps (SWOC).
A VERSATILE CREW: Making their second straight nomination but a different position from a year ago are – Hammonds (LB in ’15), Selm (OL) and Taylor (TE). Hammonds was Miami Valley Conference defensive player of the year. It capped a wonderful career that saw him make 386 total tackle register 52.0 sacks and recover 10 fumbles in a North College Hill uniform.
THE BMOC’s IN ‘17: Of the 58 nominees, 20 are juniors. The Class of 2018 – Ashurst, Bentley, Combs, Courtright, Day, Gelhaus, Hamdan, Hawkins, Henderson, Malone, Mentzer, Reigelsperger, Rogers, Schricker, Silcox, J. Smith, Taylor, Uetrecht, Vance and Vann.
COMMITTED: Several nominees have already made their verbal commitments to college: Cage – Ohio State; Hines – Cincinnati; King – Kentucky; Meiser – Old Dominion; Sichterman – Iowa State; Walker – Lehigh.
UNDERCLASSMEN OFFERS: No less than seven juniors have Division I FBS offers. Vann – Cincinnati, Duke, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee, Toledo, West Virginia and Wisconsin; Taylor – Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Tennessee; Hawkins – Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Toledo; Reigelsperger – Kentucky, Purdue, Rutgers and Western Michigan; Rogers – Bowling Green and Iowa State; Bentley – Kentucky; Henderson – Northwestern.
Sophomore’s Briggs and Faucheux are hot commodities. Briggs’ offers include Cincinnati, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Faucheuxhas offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky and Tulane.
