East pounds West in battle of the Lakota’s
- Updated: September 30, 2017
WEST CHESTER, ohio – It was a record setting night for Lakota East as they knocked off their rival, Lakota West, 35-0. It was the biggest margin of victory in the series which dates back to 1998. Since Lakota High School split West owns a 13-8 advantage in the rivalry. East has now won two in a row versus the Firebirds for the first time since 2002 and ’03.
The Thunderhawks very much looked the part of a playoff team on this night as they spoiled the Lakota West homecoming. The Lakota East rushing attack dissected and dismantled the Firebirds in meticulous fashion. By the time halftime came around they were running downhill with no intention of stopping.
It was a performance of proficient beauty. Five East players combined to run for 363 yards. The line opened up holes that amounted to 8.6 yards per carry. They converted 7-9 third down attempts. All three of their passes were completed and for 20 yards or more including a 32-yard halfback pass for a touchdown from Sean Church to Evan Yablonsky.
Junior running back Jack Debrozsi led Lakota East with 138 yards and a two trips to the end zone rushing. He is now 78 yards shy of 1,000 for the season to go along with his 18 touchdowns on the ground. Quarterback Dylan Fry also scored twice and finished with 79 yards rushing. Church only had two totes but 48 yards on those.
The one bright spot for Lakota West was sophomore running back, David Afari. He ran for 137 yards and caught two passes for 63 yards. It was the fourth time this season that he has topped the century mark rushing.
