Trotwood-Madison stuns Wayne
- Updated: October 27, 2017
Trotwood-Madison upsets Wayne, 14-7, to finish an undefeated regular season Friday night on senior night.
Trotwood-Madison senior Ra’veion Hargrove running back finished his final regular season game with 218 yards and a touchdown. He finished the season with 1685 yards.
The Rams were held to only 14 points after scoring at least 56 points the last six games.
They opened the scoring early in the game when Hargrove scored on a seven-yard run. Wayne answered when junior running back Trace Kinnel found the endzone on a 12-yard run to tie the game.
In the second quarter, the Rams took the lead when senior quarterback Markell Stephens-Peppers connected with senior receiver Dallas Daniels on an 11-yard pass. The senior quarterback only completed three passes, but that connection was the biggest completion of the game, if not the season.
Once they took the lead the top ranked defense in the conference held one of the best offenses scoreless. Wayne senior quarterback Rashad McKee has the most passing yardage in the conference, but tonight McKee was held to only three yards. He tried to challenge the secondary, throwing 17 times, but only completing four of those passes. Junior defensive end Kennedy Coates disrupted the passing game, and was able to add-on to his league-leading 14 sacks when he sacked McKee for his 15th sacked of the season. He also forced a fumble that Ke’shawn Huguely recovered.
Senior L’Christian Smith, who is regarded as one of the best players in the state, was held to four yards on three catches. Junior Steven Victoria has averaged over 100 yards per game, but was held to zero catches. Freshman Austin Mullins also did not catch a pass for the first time this season.
The Warriors forced two turnovers as Stephens-Peppers threw an interception and senior Alex Reigelsperger recovered a forced fumble.
Trotwood-Madison will be the top seed in the Division III, Region 12 playoffs that start next week. Wayne will be in the Division I playoffs in Region 3 with GWOC rivals Centerville, Northmont and Fairmont. The Warriors defeated Northmont and Fairmont, but lost to Centerville.
