Fairfield Wins Shootout Over Centerville

Fairfield went on the road and defeated Centerville, 49-21, Friday night.
This was Fairfield’s third win in the last four meeting against Centerville. Last year was the only loss at Centerville defeated Fairfield, 30-23
Centerville had a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, but Fairfield outscored the Elks in the next three quarters. The Elks struggled to stop the big plays as Fairfield rallied for 21 points in the second quarter on a 69-yard run, a 29-yard pass, and a 20-yard pass.
Fairfield junior Juthan McClain combined for 290 yards and six touchdowns. McClain rushed for 184 on 17 carries. This was his second-best game of his high school career when he rushed for 186 yards last season against Lakota East.
He also added a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half to add to his six other touchdowns.
Fairfield senior Jeff Tyus completed 12-of-16 passes for 179 yards, and the three touchdowns to McClain.
Both teams showed their explosiveness when Centerville gained 500 yards and Farfield had 460 yards. The difference is Centerville turned the football over three times. Senior Allen Caldwell and junior Nykel Bell intercepted passes and Bell recovered a fumble after senior Meklyell Muhammad forced the fumble.
Centerville’s Tyler King threw for 399 yards and three touchdowns. Corey Brunette was responsible for catching 11 of King’s 25 completions. Brunette tallied 284 yards and caught King’s three touchdowns.
The Elks were outrushed 281-24. Bryce McMahon led the Elks in rushing with 53 yards on only eight attempts.
Juniors Phoenix Porter and Jaylen Goins led Fairfield with seven tackles each. Porter had one of the team’s four sacks.
