Edgewood Runs Through The Rain And Into The Playoffs

TRENTON, ohio – On a rain-soaked night Edgewood did what they do best – run the football. The Cougars churned out all 308 yards of their offense on the ground as they handled Mount Healthy 33-7 on senior night. Th win earned Edgewood a Division II, Region 8 playoff game next Friday. The Cougars also took home a share of its third consecutive SWOC title.

Senior Elijah Williams ran for 174 yards and three touchdowns for the winners. He now has 1,217 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing. Classmate Wade Phillips added 89 yards and a pair of scores on the ground. Phillips has also posted similar numbers with 1,232 yards and 15 touchdowns running this season.

The Edgewood defense was outstanding holding its eighth opponent to 13 points or fewer. They haven’t allowed an offensive touchdown in the last three weeks. Two of those games have been vrsus playoff teams (Mount Healthy and Little Miami).

Mount Healthy which has battled the injury bug all year somehow found enough wins to make it into the postseason. This will be the 13th playoff appearance for the Owls (6-12) and sixth in the last seven years. Edgewood is also making its 13th trip (12-12) to the playoffs. This is just the Cougars second postseason appearance since 2012.
