Cincinnati Round-Up: Fairfield outlasts Hamilton
- Updated: September 20, 2019
The Indians faced their toughest test of the season, and they came out on top in a shootout. Fairfield is now the only team in the GMC that remains unbeaten.
Fairfield outgained Hamilton 558-325 in total yards, the bigger story being the 340-137 domination of Hamilton in the run game. When you have a running back like Jutahn McClain, those are the results you get.
It may sound like a broken record at this point, but this young man continued to put up video game type of numbers. He tallied 206 yards on 25 carries, with three TDs.
Signal caller Quicny Simms Marshall struggled through the air, going 6/21 for 119 yards. Kaleb Johnson had a good day on the ground, tallying 84 rushing yards and scoring twice.
Hamilton had every chance to ultimately win this game, as Fairfield turned the ball over three times, and had 12 penalties for 125 yards, but the Big Blue weren’t able to get over the edge.
No. 5 Winton Woods 34, No 15. Moeller 0
The Warriors took control of this game early, and never looked back. Mi’chale Wingfield got things going with a quick rushing TD. Moeller quickly fumbled on the next possession and Daylan Long returned it for a score to make it 14-0.
The rest of the game was much of the same for both teams. The Crusaders turned the ball over three more times, and Winton Woods continued the offensive onslaught.
Miyan Williams had 101 yards rushing by the end of the first half. He finished with 165 on the night. Winton Woods attempted only six passes the whole game. The Warriors accumulated 222 rushing yards to Moeller’s 22
No. 10 Lakota West 28, No. 9 Sycamore 21
Don’t look now, but the Firebirds are hitting their stride. Sycamore is coming off an emotional win, they came out of the gates flat, and it was too little too late once they started clicking.
West jumped out to a 28-7 lead. It was the David Afari show, as he accounted for all four TDs. Three came on the ground, one came through the air. Afari had 187 rushing yards and three TDs. He added two receptions for 60 yards and a TD.
Andrew Fehr finally got into rhythm late, adding a 31-yard passing TD to Jordan McConnell and a 23-yard rushing TD. This cut the score to 28-21. Sycamore had a chance to tie the game with nine seconds with the ball on the Firebirds 25, but weren’t able to convert.
No. 17 Harrison 48, Ross 10
It was only a matter of time before we saw Harrison’s offense bounce back in a big way. After scoring only 13 points in their last two games, the Wildcats exploded for 48 points in a feel good dominating performance.
The Wildcats outgained Ross 466-194. The Rams didn’t attempt a pass the entirety of the game. Connor Kinnett had 349 passing yards with two TDs. He added 65 rushing yards and two TDs on the ground.
Receiver Levi Tidwell had himself a day as well. He had eight receptions for 174 yards and two TDs. The Wildcats were an incredibly efficient 8-of-10 on third downs, while Ross went 1-of-9. The Wildcats added some late scores with a Sam Heimkreiter scoop and score, and Cam Hering found the end zone twice on short runs.
